A Colorado fugitive was arrested by police early Tuesday morning after a high-speed chase that stretched through Clearfield and neighboring Layton before ending in Morgan County.

Clearfield police Sgt. Kyle Jeffries said officers were dispatched to the Pinnacle Apartments at 1100 S. 200 East just before 2 a.m. on a tip that the 48-year-old man and a 1996 GMC Sonoma reported stolen out of Rifle, Colo., had been spotted in the area.

Jeffries said officers, warned that the suspect may have a firearm, approached with caution when they found the suspect inside the parked Sonoma. The man sped away, eventually stopping after the chase left Davis County and went into Morgan County.

The man surrendered at that point, was handcuffed and was booked into Davis County Jail on suspicion of evading police, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of ammunition by a restricted person.

He was being held without bail.
