About 15 years ago, Michael Kearns sat in the back of the Cathedral of the Madeleine with his then-fiancée, Miriam, impressed by the children's choir singing during Catholic Mass.

That awe remains today, and the couple produced a documentary about the only coed kindergarten through eighth-grade choir school in the United States.

"The Choir" is an 88-minute documentary about the students and staff of The Madeleine Choir School.

The Kearnses began filming in 2010 and finished editing in early fall 2012.

The couple plan to enter the film in international and national film festivals. It has screened several times at the Salt Lake City Public Library with positive feedback.

"These were test screenings to get it down to the last edit," Michael Kearns said. "And the audience was blown away. We were pleased with the early stuff."

Kearns said the documentary is available for purchase online at http://www.thechoirfilm.com for $25 including shipping.

He hopes the documentary will give more exposure to what he thinks is a little-known group.

"This choir is internationally known, and they sang at the Salt Lake City Olympic opening ceremonies," Kearns said. "I'm surprised that many people haven't heard them."
