TRACK AND FIELD • Tyson Gay overcame a slow start to win the 100 meters on Friday night in Des Moines, Iowa, at the U.S. championships, surging past Justin Gatlin halfway through the race.
Gay finished in a time of 9.75 seconds, the fastest in the world this season. Gatlin finished second, and Charles Silmon was third.
Oregon star and NCAA champion English Gardner, who just recently turned pro, captured the women's 100, breezing past the field. Octavious Freeman was second and Alexandria Anderson took third.
