Re "Unlicensed Utah midwife charged in newborn's death" (Tribune, June 20):

I know Valerie El Halta, the midwife recently charged with negligent homicide, to be a gifted, competent and conscientious midwife whose whole purpose is to give babies a beautiful start to life and their parents a joyous, empowering experience.

I have been a grateful witness of her care and skills at the births of some of my grandchildren. There is more to this story. I hope we get to hear the full truth.
