Therapist group to give Utah $2 million boost
The American Physical Therapy Association's national conference that begins Wednesday in Salt Lake City is expected to provide a $2 million bump to Utah's economy. More than 2,000 therapists reportedly will attend the conference that runs through Saturday at the Salt Palace.
Roy orthodontic office moves to new location
Utah Orthodontic Care has relocated its Roy office to 3491 W. 4800 South. The practice, founded in 1976 by Richard E. Randle, remains a family-owned business operated by dentists Brian Randle and Cal Randle, the company's CEO. It has 11 Utah offices, from Roy to Spanish Fork.
Neiman Marcus plans to launch $100 million IPO
Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus hopes to raise up to $100 million through an initial public offering. The company, owned by private equity firms TPG Capital and Warburg Pincus, won't receive any proceeds from the offering. Instead, the funds will go to current owners, who will be selling shares.
Barrick Gold to lay off 100 in Toronto office
The world's largest gold mining company, which has operations in Salt Lake City, has announced plans to eliminate 100 jobs at corporate headquarters in Toronto. Barrick Gold Corp. said the reduction represents 30 percent of its head-office staff. It blamed low gold prices and rising costs.
Smithfield drops Paula Deen as spokeswoman
Paula Deen lost another part of her empire. Smithfield Foods said it was dropping her as a spokeswoman. The announcement came days after the Food Network said it would not renew her contract after revelations that Deen used racial slurs in the past.
