West Bountiful • Ryan Reisbeck of Layton enjoyed a big weekend of driving golf balls, beating the reigning world champion in one competition and qualifying for the Re/Max World Long Drive Championship in another event at Lakeside Golf Course.

Reisbeck launched a 422-yard drive in the finals vs. Ryan Winther, earning $6,000 in the Rockwell Long Drive Championship. Winther's best mark was 408 yards in that round. The other semifinalists, Ben Tua'one of Salt Lake City and Jim Carriel, each earned $1,400.

In regional qualifying for the Re/Max event, Daniel Beckman of Fresno, Calif., led the way with 437-yard drive. The other qualifiers included James Waldron (409), Richard Meikle (391), Randall Dawson (389), Carriel (388), Reisbeck (387) and Austin Kincaid (383). Monte Schneinblum (368) won the senior division.

The qualifiers advance to the Re/Max competition in October at Mesquite, Nev.

Some of the professional long drivers also performed in the Re/Max Metro scramble tournament held in conjunction with the competition, benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project.
