A 13-year-old girl was in satisfactory condition Friday, a day after she was shot in the back of the shoulder by her 15-year-old brother.

Clearfield Assistant Police Chief Mike Stenquist said Friday that no charges were filed in the shooting itself, which was deemed to be accidental.

However, the boy will be likely be charged with theft, since the .22-caliber handgun used in the shooting was determined to have been stolen a year ago during an automobile burglary in nearby Clinton, Stenquist said.

The shooting was reported Thursday afternoon at 221 N. 360 West in Clearfield. The girl was conscious and talked with officers when they arrived.

The brother reportedly was showing his sister the handgun when weapon discharged; the parents of the siblings called 911.

The girl was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, where she remained Friday.

Given their status as juveniles, police were not releasing the names of the siblings.
