Skiing legend Stein Eriksen is recovering after being hospitalized for more than a week with what Deer Valley Resort marketing director Coleen Reardon described as "neurological symptoms."

She said Eriksen, 85, was flown to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray on June 26 after experiencing distress at home in Park Meadows. "He was in intensive care for a couple of days while they ran some tests and now seems to be on the mend," Reardon said. "We talked with family [Thursday] and they are pleased with the progress he is making."

Family and resort officials are waiting to hear when he will be released from the hospital, she added.

Intermountain spokesman Jess Gomez said Saturday that Eriksen was in good condition. Through, Gomez, Eriksen's family said they were "grateful for the outpouring of thoughts and prayers."

Eriksen won the gold medal in giant slalom and the silver in slalom at the 1952 Winter Olympics in his home town of Oslo, Norway. He then immigrated to the United States, working at Park City Mountain Resort before leaving to become director of skiing at Deer Valley, where a five-star lodge is named in his honor.
