Here's what's being talked about over the weekend in pop culture:

• Hi, ho, silver medal: "The Lone Ranger" came in a weak second in the box-office race this Fourth of July, amassing a puny $48.9 million over the five-day weekend – compared to the massive $142.1 million haul of "Despicable Me 2." [The Hollywood Reporter]

• So now we know who was making racist and anti-gay remarks in the "Big Brother" house. [Entertainment Weekly]

• In an interview, director James Cameron says Hollywood is using 3-D too much – which is a little like Prometheus complaining about arsonists. [Vulture]
