A firefighter and two workers were hurt in an early Monday afternoon blaze at a northwest Salt Lake City metals processing business.

The fire broke out about 1 p.m. inside some metal cutting machinery at Utah Metal works, 850 W. Everett Ave. (1450 North), said Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay. It was a small fire but emitted large amounts of smoke. Two workers suffered smoke inhalation; one was taken to a hospital and another was treated by medics at the scene, Asay said.

A firefighter was injured when the water from the firehose struck his hand and the force of the impact injured it, Asay said. The firefighter was taken to a hospital.
