A man suspected of domestic violence escaped from the Purgatory jail in Hurricane on Wednesday afternoon.

Joseph Graham, 21, was booked late Tuesday night on suspicion of domestic violence in front of a child, said jail commander Jake Schultz. Jail staff discovered he was missing about 3:55 p.m. Wednesday; investigators learned he escaped about 3:30 p.m., Schultz said. Schultz would not describe how Graham, a St. George man, escaped.

Graham had been booked on suspicion of a class B misdemeanor, Schultz said. If he is caught, he may face felony charges for escaping custody, Schultz said.

Investigators from multiple agencies were following up on leads and have taken precaution to protect the victim in the domestic violence allegations, Schultz said Wednesday night. Graham is not believed to be armed or dangerous to the public.

Graham is described as white, with hazel eyes and brown hair. He stands at 6 feet 3 inches tall and 170 pounds.
