A man who escaped from the Purgatory jail in Hurricane on Wednesday afternoon was recaptured early Thursday morning.

Joseph Graham, 21, was booked late Tuesday night on suspicion of domestic violence in front of a child, said jail commander Jake Schultz. Jail staff discovered he was missing about 3:55 p.m. Wednesday, though Schultz would not describe how the St. George man escaped.

After investigators from multiple agencies followed up on leads, Graham was caught and booked back into the jail at 1:05 a.m. Thursday. Further details about the arrest were not immediately available.

Investigators also took precaution to protect the victim in the domestic violence allegations, Schultz said Wednesday night.

Graham may face felony charges for escaping custody, Schultz said Wednesday.
