Von Miller is practicing with the Denver Broncos as a new report suggests the All-Pro linebacker could be facing a six-game suspension.

ESPN, citing people it didn't identify, reported that Miller might have to sit out at least six games for violating the league's drug abuse policy. In that case, Miller's earliest possible game would be Oct. 20 at Indianapolis.

Previously, it was believed Miller was facing a monthlong suspension to start the 2013 season. Miller had repeatedly expressed confidence he was going to successfully win an appeal of that penalty, insisting he had "done nothing wrong." Miller now is unlikely to go forward with an appeal, which was expected to be heard Tuesday, ESPN reported.

Chiefs, 49ers deal

The Kansas City Chiefs traded receiver Jon Baldwin to the San Francisco 49ers for receiver A.J. Jenkins in a swap of disappointing first-round picks.

Around the league

Jaguars • Quarterback Blaine Gabbert has a starting job and a broken thumb. Jacksonville coach Gus Bradley chose Gabbert over Chad Henne as the starter for the season. Bradley says Gabbert will miss the rest of the preseason to heal the hairline fracture in his right thumb.

Bills • Buffalo released longtime kicker Rian Lindell, handing the job to rookie Dustin Hopkins from Florida State.

Redskins 24, Steelers 13 • In Landover, Md., Rex Grossman completed 10 of 16 passes for 133 yards with a touchdown and an interception in Washington's preseason win over Pittsburgh. —
