Billings, Mont. • Protesters are calling for the resignation of a Montana judge who said a 14-year-old rape victim was "older than her chronological age" and had "as much control of the situation" as her rapist.
District Judge G. Todd Baugh made the comments Monday in handing former Billings Senior High School teacher Stacey Rambold a 15-year sentence, then suspending all but 30 days.
Baugh did not return calls to The Associated Press Wednesday. He earlier told the Billings Gazette that what he said was "stupid and wrong." The teen in the case committed suicide when she was 16.
Community organizer Sheena Rice says a Thursday protest outside the courthouse will go on, despite the apology. She says Baugh should have known better as a judge than to blame the victim.
She says a petition will be circulated calling for Baugh's resignation.
