A 42-year-old man was seriously injured after he became entangled in construction equipment in South Jordan late Wednesday morning.
South Jordan Fire Battalion Chief Wayne Edginton said the victim was a repairman working on the wheeled tractor-scraper, also known as a "belly scraper," when his arm became trapped in the rig's workings.
The 911 call came in at 11:28 a.m. from the area of 4500 West Daybreak Parkway (about 11000 South), and firefighters from South Jordan and Unified Fire Authority responded.
"We immediately brought out our heavy rescue technicians, but it took us about an hour to get the machinery shifted and extricate the man," Edginton said.
The man, who reportedly used his own cell phone to call for help, was conscious and alert but complained of shoulder pain and had difficulty breathing. A helicopter was dispatched to transport him to Intermountain Medical Center for treatment and observation.
While Edginton characterized the man's condition after rescue as "guarded," he said it did not appear he had suffered any broken bones or critical injuries.
