skiing • Lindsey Vonn's surgically repaired right knee is nearly fully healed and she plans to ski this weekend.

Vonn, a part-time Park City resident, said Wednesday after a gym workout that her knee is almost as strong as her left one. She will ski with the U.S. team in Portillo, Chile and possibly go through some gates later at the training camp.

The four-time overall World Cup champion is looking at a possible return to competition in late November in Beaver Creek, Colo. That's three months ahead of the Sochi Olympics, where she will defend her downhill title.

Donovan signs contract extension

Soccer • Landon Donovan has signed a multiyear contract extension with the Los Angeles Galaxy, keeping the high-scoring U.S. national team star with his MLS club.

The Galaxy announced the deal Wednesday with Donovan, whose current contract was up at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old Donovan has been with the Galaxy since 2005, winning three of his five career MLS Cup titles with Los Angeles. He is the third-leading goal-scorer in MLS history, trailing leader Jeff Cunningham by just three goals.

Condit tops Kampmann in UFC

Mixed martial arts • Carlos Condit stopped Martin Kampmann early in the fourth round Wednesday night, putting himself in position to challenge for Georges St. Pierre's UFC welterweight title.

Condit (29-7) dominated most of the fight and left no doubt about his superiority over Kampmann (20-7), a disputed split-decision winner over Condit in April 2009.
