Utah • The Utes clinched the Utah Classic title with two victories Saturday at the Huntsman Center: 25-15, 25-15, 21-25, 25-17 over Fairfield and 17-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 over Northern Iowa. Morgan Odale was named tournament MVP.
Utah State • The Aggies won two matches Saturday at the Utah Classic, defeating Northern Iowa 25-18, 9-25, 25-19, 25-23 and Fairfield 25-22, 17-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-7. Rachel Orr combined for 32 kills in the two matches for USU, which earned its 600th victory in program history against UNI.
BYU • The Cougars split two matches Saturday at the Hampton Inn Invitational in Bowling Green, Ohio, defeating Marquette 25-23, 19-25, 25-17, 14-25, 15-12, and losing to Bowling Green State 20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-12. Alexa Gray combined for 38 kills in the two matches.
Weber State • The Wildcats split two matches Saturday and shared the tournament championship at their Wildcat Weekend in Ogden, defeating UC Riverside 20-25, 25-19, 25-13, 26-28, 15-11 and losing to Texas Tech 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 25-14.
UVU • Utah Valley finished out its La Quinta Inn & Suites Invitational with a 25-22, 25-23, 25-19 loss to Wichita State.
Southern Utah • The Thunderbirds lost twice Saturday at the Jaguar Invitational in Mobile, Ala., falling to host South Alabama 26-24, 25-19, 25-16 and Tennessee State 24-26, 25-17, 25-23, 25-20.
SLCC • The Bruins won twice Saturday in the SLCC Invitational, defeating Eastern Arizona College 25-19, 25-17, 17-25, 25-19 and sweeping Casper College 25-19, 25-16, 25-17.
BYU 3, Nebraska 0 • Elena Medeiros, Cloee Colohan and Marisa Nimmer scored goals, and keeper Erica Owens made four saves for the Cougars (2-0) in Provo.
St. Xavier 1, Westminster 0 • Despite a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal, the Griffins (1-2-0) lost to the Cougars in Chicago.
Aggie Invitational • Utah State's Kyle McKenna won the men's 4-mile race and USU freshman Tori Parkinson won the women's 5K at the season-opening meet in Logan. McKenna won with a time of 20 minutes, 52.17 seconds, almost 4 seconds ahead of Utah Valley's Jason Lynch. Parkinson finished in 19:33.71, more than 6 seconds faster than UVU's Bridget Hazel.
BYU women • The Cougars took fourth place out of eight teams at the San Francisco Invitational. Makenna Smith was BYU's top finisher with a time of 18:36.
