The woman who caused a crash that killed a 22-year-old in Ogden early Sunday was highly intoxicated and speeding, according to Ogden police.
The driver, a 25-year-old woman who has not yet been identified, was heading south on Adams Avenue about 2:35 a.m., when she crashed into another car at 30th Street, officials said.
Elsa Alonso, 22, of Ogden, was driving the other car. She died at the scene.
According to witness reports, the 25-year-old blew through a stop sign at the intersection of Adams Avenue and 30th Street going about 80 mph in a 30 mph zone, police said.
"She had a duty to stop at that intersection," Lt. Chad Ledford said Monday. "But she didn't even think about stopping."
In a preliminary test conducted by police, it appeared the woman was severely intoxicated — her blood-alcohol level was nearly four times the legal limit of 0.08, Ledford said.
Police are waiting for more definitive blood test results.
The unnamed woman was hospitalized after the collision with non-life threatening injuries, including a broken ankle and other minor wounds, Ledford said.
