Roderic Land, plucked from academia by Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams to be his associate director of human services, is taking on a newly created county position.
He will be in charge of acquiring grants and ensuring county agencies comply with their terms.
"There's growing competition for dwindling grant dollars," McAdams said. "We want to ensure that someone is on deck to spot opportunities, compete successfully and then comply fully. It's a fiscally responsible approach to supplementing our overall budget needs and program demands."
Land came to the county from a teaching position at the University of Utah education department. He has a doctorate in educational policy studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He will report to county regional development director Carlton Christensen.
