Eight vehicles were burned when one car burst into flames Tuesday afternoon at a Utah Valley University parking lot.

One car ignited about 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot west of the library, said UVU spokesman Chris Taylor. The fire spread to seven other vehicles.

The cause of the fire is under investigation; it appeared to have started in the engine area, Taylor said. The cars sustained varying degrees of damage, "from melted plastic to significant engine and strucutral damage," Taylor said.

"It's an unfortunate situation," Taylor said. "We're just pleased that no one was injured."
