Bluffdale-based BodyGuardz, which makes protective film and cases for mobile phones, introduced Wednesday a new screen protector for iPhones that is made of glass instead of plastic.

ScreenGuardz Pure is an ultra-thin sheet of tempered glass that is positioned over the touchscreen of the mobile device. It sells for $39.95 for the new iPhone 5S and 5C and also is available for other mobile electronics including the iPad, Galaxy S3 and S4, Galaxy Note III and older iPhones.

The screen protector uses an smudge-resistant coating and is only 0.4 millimeters thick. It also is made to not shatter for safety. The protector is available now through http://www.bodyguardz.com. Traditionally, protective films for mobile devices are made of plastic.

BodyGuardz and another Salt Lake County-based mobile electronics company, ZAGG, now have protective film and other accessories for the new iPhones, which will be released Friday.
