Crews on Friday recovered the body of a 20-year-old man who drowned Thursday while swimming in a private reservoir in Layton.

The man was identified as Tyler Flint, of Clearfield. His body was recovered from the Holmes Creek Reservoir around 8 a.m. Friday, according to Layton police officials.

About 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Flint was swimming with two friends — a 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman — at the reservoir at 2450 S. Valley View Drive.

According to the woman, the trio were halfway across the reservoir when Flint told her he wasn't sure if he could make it across, said Lt. Jason Hinojosa. The male friend tried to help Flint stay afloat, but soon, both were struggling.

A father and son also attempted to swim out after hearing calls for help but were not successful. While the two friends were able to swim back to shore, at some point Flint went under, according to police.

Davis County search and rescue teams using sonar located Flint's body in about 15 feet of water.

"As of now, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding this death," Hinojosa said in a news release. "[It] appears to be purely tragic accident."
