A 17-year-old girl remained in critical condition on Monday, the day after she sustained extensive head injuries in a Utah County all-terrain vehicle crash.

Utah County sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon identified the girl as Deborah Benedict of Hobble Creek Canyon.

She was riding on an ATV about 5:45 p.m. Sunday with two other teenagers, a boy and girl, when it crashed in the Left Hand Fork area of the canyon. The ATV slid about 100 feet before coming to a stop.

Benedict's companions escaped with minor injuries.

Cannon said speed was likely a factor in the crash, but alcohol and drugs were not believed to have been involved.
