Fresh off their 31-14 win over Utah State, the Cougars start preparing this afternoon for Saturday's 5 p.m. showdown against Georgia Tech at LaVell Edwards Stadium. Monday morning, however, BYU learned the kickoff time for its Oct. 19 game at Houston. That game to be played at Reliant Stadium (home of the NFL's Houston Texans) will begin at 1:30 p.m. MT. It will be televised by either ABC, ESPN, ESPNU or ESPN2. Officials are waiting until after this weekend's games to decide which ESPN platform will get the game. Obviously, they want to see how 3-2 BYU fares against 3-2 Georgia Tech and how 4-0 Houston fares against 1-3 Memphis. Seemingly, a game pitting an explosive and undefeated Houston team against a 4-2 BYU team with a top 25 defense would get a slot on ESPN, ESPN2 or perhaps even ABC, wouldn't it? The BYU men's basketball team officially starts practices today, and will hold a media day at the BYU broadcast building on Tuesday. The Cougars also learned today that their Dec. 7 game at Springfield, Mass. against UMass will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network. The 2013 Holiday Showcase game, presented by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, will tip off at 11:30 a.m. MT and will be played at the MassMutual Center. Also Monday morning, BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy was named the FBS Independent Defensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week. It is the fifth time Van Noy has received the honor. Van Noy returned an interception 17 yards for a touchdown in Friday's 31-14 win over Utah State and also made five tackles, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. He has one tackle for loss.
