A suspected intoxicated driver suffered serious injuries Saturday morning when he rammed his SUV into barriers on Interstate 15 in Provo.

The man was driving his white SUV southbound about 7:30 a.m. when he hit the barrier on the right side of the freeway, according to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Jalaine Hawkes.

The vehicle then bounced off the barrier, veered across the southbound lanes of traffic and hit the median barrier.

The man was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Hawkes said he also was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The man's name was not released. Hawkes did not have updates on his condition Saturday afternoon.
