Provo • Freshman forward Eric Mika suffered a right eye abrasion during BYU's 90-88 loss to No. 21 Iowa State on Wednesday night, a school basketball spokesperson said Thursday afternoon.
Scans conducted on Mika's face came back negative, with no signs of broken bones or other damage. He will be re-evaluated Thursday night, and it is not clear yet whether he will be able to play in BYU's next game, which is Monday in Kansas City against Texas as part of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic at the Sprint Center.
Mika was poked in the eye by ISU guard DeAndre Kane with 3 minutes, 28 seconds remaining in the nonconference game. After referees reviewed the tape and determined the foul was "severe" and "extreme," Kane was assessed a flagrant 2 foul, which calls for immediate ejection.
