A Logan man who died Saturday after being struck by a train on a railroad bridge in Spanish Fork Canyon was an award-winning high school teacher.

Stanley Lawrence "Larry" Litizzette — a biology teacher at Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum — won a Huntsman Award for Excellence in Education in 2010.

Litizzette, 56, and his son were apparently hunting in the area when the accident occurred, according to the Utah County Sheriff's Office.

Litizzette was walking alongu a railroad bridge over the Price River near mile marker 219.5 on State Road 6 — about 20 miles north of Price — when he was hit by the train and thrown into the river. The son said he recovered his father's body.

Union Pacific Railroad Dispatch reported the accident about 1:53 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff's office said.

The state medical examiner is conducting an autopsy. A news release from the sheriff's office said some questions remain unanswered, and an investigation is ongoing.
