Note to Utah Athletic Director Chris Hill: Don't take away the nickname "Utes" or the drum and feathers logo.
This is not the derogatory name "Redskins" that was replaced years ago. This state is not going to change its name either any time soon. The university should work with the Ute Tribe to honor them by providing athletic-type scholarships to all Native Americans on campus in the form of free tuition, room and board, tutoring, etc. The students would have to keep up their grades and abide by all the school rules to stay eligible to keep their academic scholarships.
Football game day could include halftime entertainment and food booths provided by Native Americans. Canned food and clothing could be donated to local tribes and yes, "real" Utes could bang the drums at the end of the third quarter. In addition, a percentage of university sales of drum and feather logo merchandise could be given to the Ute Tribe. Who could object to this deal?
