Las Vegas • Kaycee Feild won his third straight world bareback championship Saturday night at the $6.25 million Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
Feild posted a score of 83 points to finish fifth in the final round at the Thomas & Mack Center, which was good enough to clinch his world title.
Feild, who is from Spanish Fork finished the season with earnings of $239,465. Steven Peebles of Redmond, Ore., placed second with $198,186.
It was an historic finish for Feild.
He became the first bareback rider to win at least three straight world championships since Hall of Famer Joe Alexender captured five in a row between 1971 and 1975.
Meanwhile, Caleb Bennett of Morgan, did not place in the tenth round. But he still ended up ninth in the world standings with earnings of $131,277.
In saddle bronc, Chad Ferley of Oelrichs, S.D., edged brothers Jake and Cody Wright, of Morgan, for the world championship.
Cody Wright won the final round with a score of 85 points. After placing only twice in the first eight rounds, it was his second straight victory.
Ferley finished third in the final round with an 83.5, which was good enough for him to place third in the National Finals average.
That was the difference.
Ferley ended up with $204,432 in season earnings. Jake Wright finished second in the world with $194,364. Cody Wright placed third with $191,503.
Another Wright brother, Jesse, tied for fifth place in the tenth round with a score of 81.5 points. He ended up eighth in the world after winning his first championship last year.
Meanwhile, in bull riding, Steve Woolsey of Payson did not score in the final round. But he finished 12th in the world with earnings of $98,612 and went over the $1 million mark in his career during the NFR.
