This week's Utah Crowd-Funding project gives new meaning to the phrase "card sharp."
Jeff Holt, of Salt Lake City, likes games and he likes metal. He has combined those two passions by creating limited-edition decks of playing cards out of sheet metal.
The card designs are etched on either stainless steel or copper, 0.03 millimeters thick, and only 300 decks of each will be made. There also will be 5,000 paper decks printed by the United States Playing Card Company, with a "magic finish" to look like either metals — 2,500 of each.
Holt's Kickstarter campaign is seeking $30,000 to manufacture the decks. So far, the campaign has raised $5,896, or 20 percent of the goal. The deadline is Jan. 15.
Benefits range from a deck of the paper-printed cards (for a $14 pledge) to matched decks of the steel and copper cards (for a pledge of $190 or more).
