Letter: Photos, stories show Lee's smugness

Published December 21, 2013 1:01 am
This is an archived article that was published on sltrib.com in 2013, and information in the article may be outdated. It is provided only for personal research purposes and may not be reprinted.

I commend the individual who juxtaposed the articles with photos on Page A3 of the Dec. 18, Tribune.

In one article, Utah's Sen. Mike Lee proclaims that raising taxes will destroy our economy and impede our freedoms ("Hatch, Lee split on budget deal vote," Tribune). In the other, a destitute man sleeps on the sidewalk under a holiday window at Blanc De Chine in New York. What happened to his freedom? How is his health care? Where is his job? It's likely that he would like to have work so that he could pay taxes.

My hope is that Lee will read both these articles, see the smug look on his face, and look beyond his envelope to become transformed.
