A four-car pileup on Interstate 15 Friday night backed up traffic but produced only minor injuries.

The accident occurred in the southbound lanes about 6:40 p.m. near 3000 South, just before the 3300 South off ramp, according to Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Jacob Cox. Four cars collided, Cox said, but medical personnel were only dispatched as a precaution.

Cox did not know what caused the accident, but said it happened in an area that often sees more congestion because several highways converge at that point. He did not know how long delays would be but said the accident caused some slowing.

The Utah Department of Transportation's Commuter Link website showed congestion stretching back nearly to 900 South in Salt Lake City an hour after the crash.
