Weber County drivers are being advised to avoid a section of Interstate 15 near Roy this weekend.

The Utah Department of Transportation warns that northbound I-15 will be closed at the Riverdale Road Exit (339), beginning 11 p.m. Friday and extending through 9 a.m. Saturday for demolition of an old overpass.

During the closure, northbound traffic will be detoured east along Riverdale Road to I-84 and then north back to I-15.

The northbound Exit 338 ramp at 5600 South in Roy will also be closed during the same hours and days.

From 11 p.m. Saturday to Sunday 11 a.m., southbound I-15 will shut down as the demolition work is completed. Drivers will be asked to exit at 31st Street (Exit 341), and take Hinckley Drive west to 1900 West, from where they can proceed southbound to 5600 South and turn east to rejoin I-15.

UDOT had special instructions for big rig truckers: Use eastbound I-84 Exit 340, proceed to southbound U.S. 89 Exit 87 and then merge back onto I-15 in Farmington.
