The Legislature should quit worrying about re-election, pro-voucher advocates and the Eagle Forum and pay attention to what the public says about education.

Do away with the flat tax and return to a progressive tax to restore money education lost. Do away with deductions for more than two children; allow half for the third, one-fourth for the fourth and no deduction for any more than that.

Listen to polls that show two-thirds of Utahns would support a tax hike if it went to education, to reduce class size and bring Utah out of last place. Quit micro-managing education with continuous testing and paperwork and let teachers teach. That would help students and retain good teachers.
