Logan • He didn't start, but Kyle Davis did make his comeback on Tuesday night.

The 6-foot-8 forward checked in for his first minutes in two games midway through the first half, then got his first basket working through a double team nearly 12 minutes in.

Davis has been out with knee soreness stemming from when he dislocated his kneecap on Jan. 18 at Boise State. Jalen Moore made his third straight start at power forward.

While Utah State was able to enjoy the return of one of its big men, New Mexico was forced to go without one of its own.

Senior center Alex Kirk, averaging 14.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, was sidelined with an undisclosed lower left leg injury. While his Lobo teammates warmed up, Kirk sat on the sidelines in street clothes.

The injury had previously kept Kirk out of New Mexico's game against Colorado State, in which it edged the Rams by two points. He had previously started 51 consecutive games for the Lobos.

Center Obij Ajet started in place of Kirk.

Third straight late start for Aggies

Coach Stew Morrill has said before that his program would do just about anything to play on TV.

The apparent cost of admission for Utah State is playing late. The Aggies played their third straight 9 p.m. MT tipoff, a consequence of playing their third straight televised game. The last two at the Spectrum have been televised on ESPNU, with Steve Quis and Dan Dickau calling the game.

The Aggies' first 9 p.m. tip this year was against UNLV last week on CBS Sports Network.

Sibling rivalry

One of the Utah State student section's more colorful chants was reserved for Cameron Bairstow, the 6-foot-9 center who is a candidate for the Mountain West Player of the Year.

The Australian is the brother of Utah State women's basketball forward Stephanie Bairstow, and has long, blond locks of hair. Students, aware of both these items, started a cry of "Sister's hotter" when he was at the free-throw line in the first half.
