West Jordan police have identified a man who died when his luxury sedan crashed into two power poles.

Killed in the 12:40 a.m. Tuesday accident on the Old Bingham Highway at 5700 West was Kolby Horton, 22, of Kearns, police confirmed on Wednesday.

Horton was driving a newer model Mercedes sedan at high speed when it left the roadway, clipped two utility poles and crashed, killing the man on impact. A male passenger, also 22, was taken to the hospital in fair condition, police said.

The crash also triggered a brief power outage for residents in the area.

Police said Wednesday that they awaited the results a forensic tests by the State Medical Examiner's Office to determine whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
