Jill Goff is accused of killing her son with methadone, but a judge took mercy on her Friday and agreed to let her out of jail for the boy's funeral.
Prosecutors charged the Tooele woman Wednesday with child abuse homicide, saying she gave her 2-year-old son Aiden methadone on Jan. 31. Goff called 911 when she realized the toddler wasn't breathing but the boy died of an overdose anyway, police reported.
The boy's brother and sister who also later turned up at an emergency room having ingested methadone reportedly said Goff had fixed a pink drink for the 2-year-old. Investigators suspect the drink was Goff's colored, liquid methadone that was kept in a Gatorade bottle. According to police, Goff may have meant to give the boy Gatorade but inadvertently gave him the drug instead.
