While people were out having fun in Wendover, thieves apparently took advantage of their cars having been left overnight in a Salt Lake City park-and-ride lot.

The Sears lot at 754 S. State St. is a common lot for people to leave their cars and take the Le Bus ride to Wendover, said Salt Lake City police Lt. Josh Scharman. When a bus returned from the gambling destination at about 4 a.m. Saturday, at least two people discovered that thieves had broken into their cars, Scharman said.

A third person discovered the same when a bus returned to the lot later that afternoon.

Scharman was not immediately privy to what items were reported stolen.

Car prowls are not a regular occurrence at the lot, but the police will be keeping an eye on it in light of these burglaries, Scharman said. He advised people not to leave their valuables in plain sight or to take the valuables with them if the car will remain unattended overnight.
