Why don't we get one of our legislators to tie the prison move to also moving the State Capitol, at the same time to the same location ("New panel to supervise prison move," Tribune, March 7)?
It makes more sense to move them both. We will get a better bang for our buck and we can have two new state facilities built at the same time and lower the overall cost. Get the Capitol off the earthquake-prone Wasatch Fault. Heck, the Capitol is older than the prison anyway. Let's get a new one.
And think of how the developers will fight over the Capitol real estate. They can renovate the Capitol into condos/office, or better yet, tear it down and build high-rise units (more units to sell and what a view!).
It would be a bit more of a drive for our legislators, but they only meet a couple of months a year anyway. It will be closer for those found breaking the law to get to their new digs and still be close to their old colleagues.
