A Daggett County jail kitchen worker is charged with having sex with an inmate.
The 34-year-old Manila woman was charged Thursday with five counts of custodial sexual relations, a third-degree felony, which carries a potential five-year prison sentence. She was also charged with having items prohibited in a correctional facility, a misdemeanor.
The woman worked in the kitchen for a company that contracts with the jail, said Daggett County attorney Niel Lund.
The relationship allegedly began in February 2013 and ended around August 2013, when the jail began an internal affairs investigation, Lund said.
Investigators also believe that she passed tobacco to an inmate, Lund said, though he could not confirm if it was the same inmate she is accused of having a sexual relationship with.
Lund could not immediately say when the investigation ended.
