Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey is the league's highest-paid player at $6.69 million this season.

Toronto FC and the Los Angeles Galaxy each have three of the 12 players making seven-figure salaries, according to figures released by the MLS Players Union.

The numbers include the player's base salary and all signing and guaranteed bonuses annualized over the term of the player's contract, including option years, but not performance bonuses.

Toronto midfielder Michael Bradley is the second highest paid MLS player, at $6.5 million, followed by teammate Jermain Defoe at $6.18 million.

Landon Donovan of the Los Angeles Galaxy is guaranteed $4,58 million just ahead of teammate Robbie Keane's $4.5 million. Alvaro Saborio is Real Salt Lake's highest-paid player at $453,000.

Sporting KC defender likely out for season • Sporting Kansas City defender Ike Opara will have surgery on his injured right ankle and is likely to miss the rest of the MLS season.

The club says Thursday that the April 16 surgery will repair cartilage damage. Opara, 25, had to be helped from the field after colliding with Colorado Rapids defender Jared Watts on March 29.

Madrid-United game in Michigan sells out • It took less than a day for all tickets to sell out at the 100,000-plus seat Michigan Stadium for the Aug. 2 exhibition game between world soccer powerhouses Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Organizers of the International Cup Championship said that all seats were gone on the first day of general sales.
