UC Santa Barbara outfielder Joey Epperson went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles as the host Gauchos beat BYU 9-5 in a nonconference baseball game in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Gaucho pitcher Andrew Vasquez, a 6-foot-6 left-hander, earned the win by holding the Cougars to one run on four hits over six innings, with five strikeouts.

The Cougars (14-24) scored three runs in the ninth inning off a bases-loaded triple by Eric Urry down the right-field line. Dillon Robinson singled in Urry to narrow the margin to 9-5.

Robinson had two of the Cougars' seven hits.

No. 14 UC Santa Barbara improved to 23-8.

BYU starter Hayden Rogers (1-2) took the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits in three innings.

Softball

Utah 6-8, Utah Valley 2-1 • In Orem, the Utes swept the nonconference doubleheader. Utah's Mariah Ramirez had a double and two RBIs as the Utes won the first game 6-2. Kate Dickman and Kristen Stewart had two hits each for Utah.

In the second game, Dickman hit a two-run homer for the Utes, and Megan Peay hit an HR for UVU's only run.
