A small herd of goats was killed in a barn fire Monday night in Cache County.

The fire was reported about 8:20 p.m. at a property near 11000 North and 2300 East in Richmond, said Jason Winn, fire marshal for the Cache County Fire District.

When crews arrived, the barn was fully engulfed, Winn said. He estimated fewer than 10 goats were inside the barn, along with 10 tons of hay. One of the homeowners was taken to a hospital because of minor burns to her face, possibly suffered when she tried to get the goats out of the barn, Winn said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, Winn said. Crews were trying to remove the barn's tin roof before inspecting the building late Monday.
