• "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" won the weekend box office for the third straight week, taking in $26.6 million. Johnny Depp's new film, "Transcendence," bombed with an $11.15 million take — placing fourth, behind the spiritual drama "Heaven Is For Real." [Box Office Mojo]

• The Discovery Channel has canceled Joby Ogwyn's planned May 11 live televised jump from Mount Everest, after an avalanche on the mountain claimed the lives of 13 Nepalese sherpas. [The Hollywood Reporter]

• Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, the middleweight boxer whose wrongful conviction for a triple murder in 1966 inspired a classic Bob Dylan song and a 1999 movie starring Denzel Washington, has died at the age of 76. [CNN]
