The Bees were never close Sunday night.

Fresno built a five-run lead in the first two innings and, behind the pitching of starter Mike Kickham, rolled to a 10-2 victory over Salt Lake at Smith's Ballpark.

Kickham held the Bees hitless through six innings before giving way to the Grizzlies' bullpen.

Salt Lake's Luis Martinez broke up the no-hitter with a 330-foot homer down the right field line, but it wasn't nearly enough to prevent the Bees' 17th loss in the last 21 games.

Salt Lake closes out an eight-game home stand against Fresno on Monday at 1:05 p.m.

It's been a news-producing week for the Bees, topped by the appearance of former American League MVP Josh Hamilton in a 1-0 loss on Wednesday night against Albuquerque.

Sent down from the parent Los Angeles for injury rehab, Hamilton went 2 for 4 in the game. In the ninth inning, however, he was jammed by a fastball. Discomfort in his surgically-repaired thumb followed, forcing him to miss the next three games.

It's not known whether Hamilton will play in the final game of the home stand or how long he might remain with the Bees, who visit Tacoma on Tuesday night.

"When the Angels have an announcement," Salt Lake manager Keith Johnson said, "then we'll all know."

In Los Angeles, Angels manager Mike Scioscia told MLB.com Hamilton is "... getting better. But he's not where he needs to be. He's coming off surgery, and no doubt you have to keep that in mind. He's going to get there. He's in shape. He's been running for five weeks. He just needs to get his timing at the plate."

The Angels begin a 10-game road trip on Monday night at Seattle — just up the freeway from Tacoma.

"We've got to evaluate him," Scioscia said. "We're going to give it a couple days. The original plan was [Monday], but that's obviously not going to happen."

Beyond Hamilton's situation, the Bees made two new roster moves before the loss to Fresno.

Outfielder Zach Borenstein was called up from Double-A Arkansas, with Erik Komatsu being sent back to the Travelers. Also, veteran lefthander Wade LeBlanc was recalled by the Angels, who shipped Matt Shoemaker back to Salt Lake.

After being summoned to L.A. on May 14, Shoemaker went 2-1 with a 3.18 earned average in six appearances.

"I completely feel confident I can pitch well here and help the team win," Shoemaker told MLB.com. "I know I can do that — compete. It's definitely a little confidence boost, being able to compete and pitch at this level." —
