Letter: Sad irony of Vernal's infants

I find it sad and ironic that a state that professes to believe in family values and is militantly against abortions would allow pollution to such unhealthy and dangerous levels that death rates among infants and stillborns are rising in the Vernal area ("The air around Vernal is killing infants," Brian Moench, June 1).

Also, according to Dr. Moench, there has been an increase in birth defects attributed to pollution. It appears that planned abortions are evil on a personal level but unusually high death rates are allowable if business interests so require it.

Obviously, Christian values in Utah are secondary to business interests and profits, for Utah must maintain the illusion of being the best managed state regardless of the human costs.
