Hot temperatures, gusty winds, dry vegetation and thunderstorms promise to move Utah into an unsettled and potentially fiery period as the week comes to an end.

Indeed, the National Weather Service put much of southwestern and southcentral Utah under a "Red Flag" wildfire danger warning through 10 p.m. Friday. That target regions were especially dry, with relative humidity percentages reported as low as the single digits.

Northern Utahns looked for high temperatures in the mid-to upper-80s Thursday and Friday with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible in the afternoon hours along with winds of 10-25 mph.

Southern Utah's forecast called for near-triple digit temperatures and gusts of up to 25 mph, but no precipitation.

The Utah Division of Air Quality predicted "yellow," or compromised air quality for most regions statewide into the end of the work week, though Carbon, Tooele, Uintah and Cache counties earned "green," or healthy breathing grades.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website's pollen index on Wednesday was "very high" only for grass, "high" for plantain, "moderate" fopr mold and all other allergens low.
