Police believe the gunman, who shot Colon from an alley near the parked car, was targeting Colon because of an "encounter" that had taken place earlier in the day, South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller said in an interview Wednesday.
The juvenile, seated in the passenger seat between Colon and the shooter, was not a target of the attack, Keller said. The juvenile suffered gunshot wounds in his arm and torso. A friend drove him to an area hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released that night.
Witnesses reported seeing two groups of people running from the scene, South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller said Monday.
No arrest has been made, and police continue to investigate they case. They have asked anyone with information about the case to call South Salt Lake Police Dispatch at (801) 840-4000.
