An early Thursday morning fire burned about 20 acres of brush and grass on Kennecott Utah Copper property in Magna.

Kennecott spokesman Kyle Bennett said the plant noted a "power bump" about 12:15 a.m. Thursday, about the same time an employee reported seeing a flash out by the company's south tailings impoundment area.

Soon, flames were lighting the night sky. Unified Fire Authority crews rushed to the scene and had completed snuffing the blaze by 3:30 a.m., Bennett said.

No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.

UFA investigators were looking into the cause of the fire, but Bennett said he appeared to have begun at or near a power pole near the impoundment area.
