A Mormon man who's well known for advocating for gay rights and questioning some LDS teachings says his lay church leader is taking time to decide whether he'll be excommunicated.

John Dehlin says the regional church leader told him Sunday in Logan that he needs to think and pray about Dehlin's case.

The meeting came six days after Kate Kelly, the founder of the prominent Mormon feminist group Ordain Women, was excommunicated in a case that sent ripples throughout the faith and the country.

Dehlin, creator of the popular "Mormon Stories" podcast, says another meeting or deadline has not been set and that he agreed not to talk with the news media anymore about his case.

Dehlin was asked in June whether he wants to resign from the Salt Lake City-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or face a disciplinary council for possible excommunication. The Cache County man has operated a website for Mormons questioning their faith.
